Why we built it
Most people who need a teleprompter need it for ten minutes: a product demo, a wedding toast, a YouTube intro, a video call they want to get right. Yet most teleprompter tools ask for an app download, an account or a subscription before you can read a single line.
We wanted the opposite: a reading studio that opens instantly, looks calm, keeps your eyes near the camera and forgets everything the moment you're done. CleanPrompter is that tool, and it is free.

Set a pace in words per minute, fit the whole script into a total time, or turn on Auto Scroll and let the text follow your voice.

Voice that follows you
Auto Scroll listens as you read and keeps your current line in view, pausing when you pause. It supports 28 languages.

Mirror mode
Flip the text horizontally for beam-splitter glass and hardware prompter rigs.

Reading guides
Drag the eye-line to where your camera is and set side margins so your eyes move as little as possible.

Real formatting
Bold, italic, underline, colour and alignment for cues and emphasis, with font sizes from 10 to 250 px and adjustable line height.

Keyboard first
Space to play or pause, arrow keys for speed and position, Enter to jump to the next paragraph. Works fullscreen, in light or dark theme.
What it deliberately doesn't do
Being clear about this saves you time:
- It doesn't save scripts. Everything is cleared when you reload, so keep your master copy in your notes or documents.
- It doesn't record video. Use your camera app, OBS, Zoom or your editor to record while CleanPrompter handles the reading.
- There's no remote control from a second device and no native mobile app. It runs in the browser on the screen you read from.
- Voice scrolling depends on your browser. It works best in recent Chrome and Edge; other browsers can still use speed and time modes.
What we care about
- Private by default
- Your script lives only in the page's memory. We never receive it, so we can never lose, leak or train on it.
- Free, without catches
- No sign-up wall, no watermark and no trial timer. Analytics run only if you accept them.
- Calm on purpose
- One screen, few controls, nothing flashing. The interface should disappear once you start reading.
- Honest about limits
- When another tool fits your job better, we'll say so. The comparison below does exactly that.
How voice scrolling works
Auto Scroll uses the speech recognition built into your browser, the Web Speech API. When your browser supports on-device recognition, CleanPrompter asks it to process speech locally, so the audio stays on your computer. Chrome can download an on-device language pack for this.
When on-device recognition isn't available, the browser may use its own online speech service instead. Either way, CleanPrompter matches what it hears against your script to find your place, and never records or uploads audio itself. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

Is my script saved?
No. It stays in your browser's memory while the page is open and is cleared when you reload or close it. Keep your own copy.
Does voice scrolling send my audio to you?
No. Recognition is handled by your browser, on your device where supported. CleanPrompter never records or uploads audio.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes, in a modern mobile browser. On Android, voice recognition uses the browser's online speech service rather than on-device processing.
Will the teleprompter show up in my recording?
Only if you record the screen it's on. For video calls, share a different window or tab, or place CleanPrompter on a second screen near your camera.
